Stealth Paver Leads to I-93 Paving Success
Roadtec’s SP-100 Stealth Paver is proving essential to the success of rebuilding a 20-mile stretch of I-93 in New Hampshire.
Continental Paving of Londonderry, NH is completing the paving on 12 miles of the project. Amy Charbonneau of Continental stated the company has used the SP-100 with a Carlson screed for 90% of the work, and when that machine isn’t being used, they use the Roadtec RP-190e rubber tire asphalt paver.
Continental was familiar with the Stealth Paver from previous jobs but they weren’t aware of how it would perform on a 1¼ inch base. After seeing the results, they decided to pave the entire portion from gravel up with the Stealth Paver. The SP-100 successfully remedied segregation problems, and is saving money on fuel costs and wear part replacements.
Charbonneau reported that when Continental used a conventional paver, they received a .96 to .99 pay factor. With the SP-100 they receive the maximum pay factor of 1.02 to 1.05. They also achieve near perfect compaction numbers.
Charbonneau said, "We have found that the Stealth Paver lays a consistent mat at a higher than average feet-per-minute, with great compaction numbers than with other pavers we use."
